System integration refers to the process of integrating a clinical information system — such as an EMR or EHR — with UpToDate so that it is possible for users to access UpToDate directly from these types of clinical systems.

What are the benefits of accessing UpToDate from an integrated EMR or other clinical information system?

When you access UpToDate from an integrated clinical information system, you can:

  • Earn CME/CE credits when you research a clinical question in UpToDate.
  • Access UpToDate quickly and easily, with fewer clicks.
  • Register with UpToDate, which provides the following benefits:
    • You receive a user name and password that allow you to use the My Account feature. Through My Account, you can redeem CME/CE credits that you have accrued.
    • You are required to accept the subscription and license agreement only three times each year (once with each UpToDate release).

How do I access UpToDate from an EMR or other clinical information system?

If you access UpToDate from a hospital or other institution that has a site license and is integrated with UpToDate, simply click on the clinical information system's UpToDate function (a tab, button, link, or some other type of control).

If you have an individual subscription and would like to access UpToDate from your clinical information system, please contact your system vendor and request that an UpToDate function be enabled or added.

How do I access my UpToDate account?

The My Account feature in UpToDate allows you to manage various aspects of your UpToDate account, including your CME/CE credits. You can access My Account by logging in to UpToDate with your user name and password.

If you have an individual UpToDate subscription, you chose a user name and password when you purchased your subscription.

If you access UpToDate from a hospital or institution that has a site license, and you registered with UpToDate, you received a user name and password by e-mail.

Why should I merge my accounts?

If you have multiple UpToDate accounts (for example, one through a hospital site license and one through a personal subscription), merging the accounts allows you to consolidate the CME/CE credit you have earned in one account, making it easier and faster to redeem CME/CE credit.

How do I merge two accounts?

Through the Consolidate Accounts feature, you can merge one account with another. This allows you to consolidate your account management activity — such as working with CME/CE credits — in one account.

The following procedure describes how to merge a source account (an account other than the one to which you are currently logged in) into a target account (the account to which you are currently logged in):

  1. In My Account, click the Consolidate my accounts link.
  2. Specify the user name and password for your source account.
  3. Click Log in.

    UpToDate displays a page that identifies the source and target accounts.

  4. Ensure that the desired accounts are identified as the source and target accounts.

    Important: After you merge two accounts, the merge operation cannot be undone, and the source account becomes inactive. Before proceeding, make sure that the information for the source and target accounts is correct.

  5. Click Submit.

UpToDate merges the source account into the target account. Any CME/CE credits that you have accrued are now stored in the target account, and the source account is no longer active.
